Drum & Dance Jam - Saturday 10 May, 2-5PM - Takapuna location
Following the success of the first one, the next Drum and Dance Jam will be held on World Belly Dance Day, Saturday 10 May, between 2-5PM. Price $5 per person (eftpos preferred). Location: Crosslands Lounge, Gibbons Road, behind the Public Library, Takapuna Beach.

The idea behind this 'Jam' is for tabla & frame drummers and tribal and cabaret dancers from the greater Auckland area and beyond, to be able to get together to create music and dance. Performance pieces are welcome by prior arrangement. You are encouraged to attend in costume, but it is not compulsory. Light refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) will be available all afternoon. Parking is available under the library or in surrounding streets.
New for Term 2 - American Tribal Style Dance classes - Tue 6PM Takapuna venue
Back by popular demand, ATS or Tribal style dance classes will be available on Tuesdays at 6PM in Takapuna from the beginning of Term 2. This dance style uses belly dance movements in group improvisation format (which really means follow the leader belly dance style!). We will start with the basics, and build on this according to the skill levels in this class. Entry requirement - Medance Level 1 or similar. Register here to become a member of the Medance tribe!
Term Two 2008 Registrations are now available
As we are nearing the end of Term 1 2008 (hasn't it gone quickly?) I have now opened registrations for Term 2 2008. Introduction class registrations for Term 1 2008 are now closed. The next introduction courses will commence in June 2008.

As some classes are at capacity in Term 1 2008, I recommend that you reserve your place for Term 2 as soon as possible.

Many of you are looking forward to participating in the MEDANZ fesival over Anzac Weekend (25 April), and from what I hear, the show should be quite spectacular.

Have a happy and safe Easter break 2008!
Drum & Dance Jam - March 2008
Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. We had a great time, plenty of dancing and lots of drumming was enjoyed during the afternoon, with special thanks to Sue and Craig for kicking the whole thing off. There is something special about putting on a costume and dancing happily amongst fellow dancers - quite a beautiful thing to watch.

The music covered many styles, so the 'cabaret chicks' got to make those beads and sequins shimmy, but also got to participate in the 'follow the leader' tribal numbers, led by Christine - thanks Christine for the fun and the challenge!

I am currently making plans for the next one to be held in May (after Festival) so watch this space!
